A Message from the 2006-2007 Chairman

Dear Family and Friends of Hobgood Academy:

This has been an excellent year for Hobgood Academy. We have received a $10,000 donation from the Murdough Foundation to be used for enhancements for our staff and the school. We have had students recognized, for the second year, with the Harvard Book Club award. Senior students are being recognized for their many areas of excellence by being nominated for various awards, being accepted to colleges and universities and receiving scholarships. The baseball field is being improved with new lighting. Most importantly, after much hard work from many teachers, staff, and others, Hobgood Academy received SAIS accreditation on August 31, 2006. This substantiates what we already know about the greatness of Hobgood Academy.

Hobgood Academy was the vision of a long-time resident of Hobgood, North Carolina, Mr. Buster Anthony. Under the leadership of Mr. Anthony and with the hard work of parents and friends sacrificing both their time and finances, Hobgood Academy opened its doors in 1970. It has continued to exist due to parents and supporters wanting an institution that would give children the opportunities to achieve their full potential in academics, the athletic arena and in character development. Being a graduate of Hobgood Academy, I did not foresee that I would have a child graduate exactly 30 years later and two more to graduate in the class of 2009. We must continue to support Hobgood Academy with our time and financial contributions to secure the future for generations of children to come. Our Annual Giving Campaign is one way to support Hobgood Academy. Your financial pledge or gift, no matter the amount, can help us achieve greater goals.

The Board is working especially hard to ensure the well-being of the school in all areas. We are looking at new and innovative ways to market our school and to let others know what makes it an excellent place to receive an education. We look forward to your help in this area.

Once again, I thank you on behalf of the Board for your support. I extend to you an invitation to visit your school to inquire how you might help contribute to our most important resource: our children.

Sincerely,
Julie B. Rawls
Board Chair
